Joseph “Joe” Malec was born on July 7, 1956, in Memphis, TN, and was the first of 2 children born to Joseph and Leigh Malec. His sister, Leah’s (Turnbull), birth followed. The Malec family raised their children in Omaha, NE, where Joe graduated from Westside High School in 1974. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for five years, honorably.
Growing up, Joe worked tirelessly at the family business, the famous Peony Park, which his grandfather, Joe Sr, and brothers built in 1919. After Joe Jr’s passing, Joe III operated the amusement park until it closed in 1994. In 1990, he married Jenifer Van Horn and sons, Aaron and Jon, were welcomed to the family. Later, Joe worked for the Van Horn family business, Beau Manoir Townhomes, and later purchased the property. He continued the business until he retired in 2019.
Joe loved his sons dearly, and last year welcomed his first grandchild, Rowan Joseph. He relished every visit with him and mom, Hannah. (By the way, they are expecting another son this fall!)
In 2007, Joe decided it was time to ride a motorcycle again and took great pride in his Victory motorcycles. He was an original member of the local Victory Motorcycle Club, later the River City Victory Riders. He was greatly admired by his fellow riders and will be sorely missed by his “brothers.”
Cindy May, Joe’s girlfriend, leaves us with this thought…”A golden heart stopped beating. Hard working hands are at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.” --Anonymous
