With heavy hearts and joyful memories, we announce the passing of John Vitols.
Born in Riga, Lativa, John immigrated to the United States as a young boy with his family, embracing the promise of a new beginning. From the start, he was drawn to the sparkle of toys, the roar of engines, and the serenity of water.
He made his home in Omaha and was a devoted husband to Margaret (Sorensen). He continued to share his love for her through stories after her passing. He instilled a zest for life with everyone he met. He valued independence and the freedom to pursue what mattered to him. He was proud to be an American, grateful for the opportunities this country gave him, and never missed the chance to share his patriotism.
In the late 1960’s and following the American Dream, John opened Victory Auto & Truck Sales in South Omaha shortly after starting a family and operated Victory with the same grit and determination for over 55 years.
John enjoyed cruising in a classic cars, riding the waters of the Missouri, jet skiing and hanging out with his grandsons, lighting up the sky with fireworks, trying his luck at the slots, telling tall tales, and giving the shirt off of his back to help a friend or stranger. Music was his constant companion. He always had a song in his heart and was quick to share a lyric or hum a tune. His laughter was contagious, his stories unforgettable (some even unbelievable), and his presence a gift to all that knew him.
He leaves behind a legacy of joy and resilience. He will be deeply missed by his daughter: Diane; grandsons: Zach, Jacob, and Nicholas; sisters: Valda and Tekla; dear friends: Jim and Joyce; and many other family and friends.
In honor of John, we invite you to sing a favorite tune, take a ride with the windows down, or light a firework in celebration of a life lived with passion and play.
Forever Young. Forever Loved.
