Omaha -

John was born in Omaha, Nebraska where he lived his entire life.  He graduated from Tech High School in 1961.  He then began his career as a Machinist at Western Electric/Lucent Technologies where he worked for 42 years.  He married Nancy Luedeke in 1963.  They were married for almost 60 years and have four children, 14 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.  Throughout the years John's hobbies included playing card games, fishing, bowling, golfing, gardening, and traveling.  When his children were young, he spent lots of time in the backyard playing catch and wiffle ball with them.  He also attended all of their sporting events.  He enjoyed nearly 20 years of retirement, spending that time golfing and attending his grandchildren's numerous school and sporting events.  This included a school field trip to the Nebraska State Capital and Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.  John passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was 79 years young.

 

Preceded in death by parents Hans and Henrietta (Andersen) Symonsbergen, sister Barbara Christensen.  Survived by wife Nancy (Luedeke), children Kristy (Steve) Proctor, Julie (Rick) Starlin, David Symonsbergen, Ann (Shawn) Sharkey, grandchildren Danielle Graalfs, Megan Carlson, Mitchell DiCenzo, Lauren Proctor, Meredith Proctor, Kaleigh Heng, Maxwell Heng, Makenzie Starlin, Noah Symonsbergen, Karli Symonsbergen, Cale Symonsbergen, Jacob Sharkey, Sam Sharkey, Addision Sharkey, great-granddaughter Aurora Graalfs, brother Richard (Dorothy) Symonsbergen, other family and many friends.

 

Visitation Tuesday 5 - 7 PM at Roeder Mortuary. Funeral Service 10:30 AM Wednesday (3/15/2023) Roeder Mortuary. Interment Elkhorn Cemetery. Memorials American Cancer Society
