John H. Sedlacek

Springfield - John Sedlacek was born on November 29, 1937 to Vac and Elsie Sedlacek on their farm southwest of Gretna NE. He attended district 37 country school south of Gretna and later graduated from Gretna High School in 1955. He attended St. Patrick Cathoilc Church in Gretna. John worked on the family farm while growing up. He worked with horses in the fields until they later had a tractor and some better machinery. He worked with cattle and other livestock as well and enjoyed being on the Farm.

John had a knack for good carpentry skills growing up. He later put them to good use after graduating High School and entering the work force. He became a full-time contractor along with his other brothers. They formed their own Company "Sedlacek Bros Inc" and built many custom homes in the Gretna -Omaha area and beyond. John was a great finish carpenter.

John joined the Army in 1960 he served in the NE & IA National Guard until 1966 while also building homes and farming fulltime. He met Jean, his wife to be, in Verdigre NE. while home on leave at one point. The two were eventually married in June of 1962 until Jeans passing in 1996 after 33 years of marriage. They were blessed with three Children; Jane, Janice and Steven.

John continued to build and homes and farmed and eventually got his own farm west of Springfield NE. He farmed there as well as helping his other brothers in the family which had their own farms. He continued to build and farm in some capacity until his health no longer allowed him to.

John wasn't a relaxed kind of individual. He took only several actual vacations in his life and missed a lot of school and social presentations for his family and children growing up. He always loved and provided for his family. He was a loving husband and was the best father his family could have ever asked for. He believed in Heaven and the Lord. We all wish him God Speed to his eternal rest with Jesus.

Preceded in death by wife Ellen (Jean) Sedlacek. Survived by children Jane Sedlacek, Janice (Richard) Porubski, Steve Sedlacek and Mary Lamprecht, grandchildren Erin, Jacob, Chandler, Shannon, Jaden, great grandson Callum, brother Bill (Mary Ellen) Sedlacek, sister-in-law Elaine Sedlacek, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral Service 10:00 AM Saturday (12/20/25) at St. Patrick Catholic Church 508 Angus St. Gretna. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorials to the family.
