John (Jack) Krzycki was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Anton and Helen Krzycki on March 27, 1927. He was the youngest of 5 children which included his brothers: Ed and Elmer and sisters: Lucille and Dolores.
For most of his childhood, he lived in South Omaha, just a few blocks away from Immaculate Conception Church. He talked often of his school days at ICC school and of how he served as an altar boy at that church. Jack told stories of how his uncle was the pastor at ICC school and when he got in trouble he would be sent to his uncle. His uncle then proceeded to try to teach him poker as a disciplinary measure.
He spent his high school years at Omaha South High School. There he was active in football and was very proud of his ability to play on the team with All American, Tom Novak.
Right after high school graduation, Jack was drafted into the Army. Since he was drafted at the very end of WWII, he did not see combat duty, but was proud of being a part of the military. Often, he would show off his military drill routine to his family.
In 1953, Jack met Norma Stockholm, a nursing student from Niobrara, Nebraska, while swimming at Peony Park. After six months of dating and dancing at the Peony Park Ballroom, they became engaged and were married In August of 1954. Together they brought into the world and raised 6 children: Helen, Jeanne, Terri, Ed, John and Nancy.
Jack was very devoted to his family. Every holiday, birthday, reunion, graduation, sacramental event was a huge family celebration that he never missed. He had a wonderful sense of humor and often entertained his children and then his grandchildren with his silly songs and antics.
Jack spent most of his employment years in some branch of sales. Most of his years were spent being a food broker for small companies, but some of his employers included Baker’s Supply and Roberts Dairy. He retired more than once, but finally retired for good at the age of 80.
Jack was a diehard Nebraska Husker football fan. He considered himself lucky to be able to attend many of the home Nebraska football games. He took the games very seriously and his children learned at a very early age not to bother their dad during a game.
Jack died early in the morning on Christmas eve day at the age of 97. What a great day to join in the celebration of the birth of Jesus with the angels! Jack was preceded in death by his parents; all of his brothers and sisters; and his daughter-in-law: Denise. He is survived by his wife of 70 years: Norma; and his children: Helen (Rod), Jeanne (Butch), Terri (Don), Ed, John (Trish) and Nancy (Harold). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
