John Lee Kreifels, known to his cousins as "Howard", passed away at the age of 72 on January 28, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by his family. Born on October 23, 1953, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, John was the son of the late John B. and Rosie Kreifels. From a young age, John was tough and determined—a fighter by nature in every sense of the word.
In his youth, John discovered a passion for boxing, training under the guidance of his uncles, Gene and Richard Olson. His dedication and drive earned him recognition as a Golden Gloves Champion, an achievement he carried with pride. He later served in the United States Army, continuing a life marked by grit and perseverance.
At just 24 years old, John was involved in a life-altering car accident that left him permanently disabled. What followed was one of the greatest battles of his life—learning how to walk and talk again. True to who he was, John faced it head-on, refusing to give up and showing remarkable strength and resilience.
In March of 1979, John married the love of his life, Ronda Kreifels. Together they built a family and shared a life full of ups, downs, and unwavering commitment. He was a proud father to John C. and Angela, and later a loving grandfather known as “papa.”
John is survived by his loving wife: Ronda; his son: John C. Kreifels and his fiancé: Kristin; his daughter: Angela Ridenour and her husband: Thom; his cherished grandchildren: Pyper and Ryden Kreifels, and Isla and Mya Ridenour; and his brother: Dave Kreifels. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Steve Kreifels; and his sister: Jolene Reifenrath.
John was happy, warm, and kind. He loved his family and friends deeply, enjoyed classic rock, and had a great smile and a hearty laugh. John always had a compliment ready for anyone he met and will be remembered not just for his toughness, but for his heart.
John’s strength, perseverance, and genuine kindness will live on in the many lives he touched.
