John "Jack" A. Crawford

John A "Jack" Crawford. Born May 3, 1941 in Omaha, passed peacefully at home September 12, 2026.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years: Karen (Kaufmann) Crawford; his brother: Gerald Crawford; and his parents: Harold and Mildred (Powers) Crawford.

He is survived by his sister: Margaret (Peggy) Kontor (Bill); his daughters: Sharon Crawford-Fee (Dan) and Christine Severin (Mike); his son: Bradley Crawford; and his grandchildren: Ryan Fee (Elle), Christina Severin, Ethan Crawford, and Logan Crawford.

Jack was proud of his decades-long career with Omaha Public Schools, where he dedicated himself to supporting students with special needs and advocating for children facing difficult circumstances. His commitment to helping children was an important part of who he was and the legacy he leaves behind.

Jack will be remembered for many things: his love of collecting classic cars, his tinkering with model trains, his gift for storytelling, and his devotion to his dogs. He also took great pride in his stellar skills at the BBQ grill and was always happy to share the results.

Music was another lifelong love. Jack’s tastes began with good old rock-n-roll and expanded over the years to include mellow singer-songwriters and a touch of country, especially Garth Brooks. He often tested the limits of his speakers, both at home and in the car, because, in Jack’s world, music was meant to be listened to loud!

And then there was Jack’s legendary gift-wrapping. He had a fierce reputation in the family for carefully wrapping presents so that the pattern on the paper matched perfectly on every side as it folded around the gift—a skill he undoubtedly learned from his mother, Mildred. He would often add a creative clue to the gift tag, challenging the recipient to guess what was inside. The clues frequently included a pun or two, making the gift-opening almost as much fun as the gift itself.

Jack, Dad, Mr. Crawford—we will miss your stories, your love of being Irish, your sense of humor, and all the little things that made you uniquely you. We will miss you more than words can say, and we will carry your memory with us always.
