Gretna - Joan Busselman, 83, of Gretna, Nebraska, went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Joan was born on March 23, 1942, to Alice and Elmer “Pete” Keck, and was raised in Moville, Iowa. She attended Moville High School, and later went on to study at Bob Jones University, majoring in Secondary Education.
On June 11, 1966, Joan married Gerald Busselman. Together they built a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work. They made their home on a farm in Rosalie, Nebraska, where they raised their children and spent many years farming.
Joan had a heart for teaching and Christian education. She taught English at Morningside Christian School, and later served as the principal of the school for one year. She was also deeply involved in her church and in Bible studies in her community, always seeking to encourage others and grow in her faith.
In retirement, Joan and Gerald moved to Gretna, Nebraska, to be closer to their grandchildren. They lived there for 21 years, creating a home filled with love, family gatherings, and cherished time together. In August 2025, they moved to Symphony Pointe Assisted Living in Omaha.
Joan especially loved music, and her heart was drawn to the old gospel hymns—songs that brought her comfort, joy, and hope.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Elmer “Pete” Keck; her brother Larry Keck; her daughter Carol; and a beloved baby girl who was still born. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Busselman; her children Kathy (Roger) Sanders, Karan (Rick) Jessen, and Jerry (Jill) Busselman; her brother Leo Keck and his wife Dee; her sister-in-law Lavon Keck; and her grandchildren Rachel Busselman, Aiden Busselman, Sean Busselman, Joshua (Hadley) Jessen, and Anthony Jessen
