Jimmy Ray Brasch, age 70, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on March 16, 2026. Jim was born on October 26, 1955 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. At a young age, his family moved to Wayne, Nebraska, where he later graduated from high school in 1974
In 1978, Jim married his beloved wife: Helen Ott-Brasch. He was a devoted father to his son: Jason Brasch, daughter: Katherine Chan, and her husband: Michael Chan. He was also a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Evelyn, William, and Theodore Chan, and Matilda Brasch. He is survived by his sister: Shirel Zillier, and his brother: Jerry Brasch.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1978 and earned his PE license. Throughout his career, he held a variety of engineering roles, dedicating his talents to solving complex challenges. As a Fuels Engineer he earned the Goethals Award. He made outstanding contributions to the fields of engineering and construction assuming the leadership of the US Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District Fueling Systems Center of Expertise. He also was awarded the Fuel Systems Engineer of the Year award from the Petroleum Management Association.
A strong believer in service, Jim was deeply involved in his community. He volunteered for many years with the Boy Scouts of America earning the Silver Beaver award to recognize Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service. He was active in the Society of American Military Engineers where he was involved in a student mentoring program. He also served with the men’s work group at Trinity Lutheran Church where he helped solve many maintenance issues.
Jim was known for his desire to help others, being a true boy scout at heart. He loaned tools and shared his expertise with those around him. After a big storm you’d be sure to find him in the yards of his neighbors cutting up fallen trees. His kindness, dedication, and problem-solving spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
There will be a Memorial Service 11:00 AM Saturday (3/28/2026) with luncheon to follow at Trinity Lutheran Church 6340 N. 30th St. Omaha, Nebraska 68111; Celebration of Life 3:00-6:00 PM Monday (3/30/2026) at Report In Pub 12100 W Center Rd. STE #204 Omaha, NE 68144.
In lieu of flowers memorials to the Boy Scouts of America or Trinity Lutheran Church.
