Jarred attended Scotts Bluff Jr. College and worked for Union Pacific Railroad in North Platte, NE until he joined the United States Air Force in January 1955. He married Mary Lois Lee in Jackson, MS on June 29, 1958. Their union was blessed with two children, Laura and Alan.
After his discharge from the Air Force in Dec 1958, Jarred attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1962. Following that he attended Law School at UNL, completing two years towards his law degree before the birth of his daughter Laura.
Jarred then began working for the Union Pacific Railroad, starting in North Platte, NE but eventually moving to UP’s headquarters in Omaha, NE in January 1966. After Union Pacific, Jarred went to work for the Federal Government’s Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) operating out of their regional office inside the Federal building in downtown, Omaha. Jarred continued working for the ICC for nearly 30 years before retiring in October 1995.
Outside of work, Jarred enjoyed bowling, golfing, shooting pool, and playing cards and games with family and friends. He was also an avid, lifelong Husker fan who loved watching all of Nebraska’s sports teams play and compete, but he particularly enjoyed watching their football, basketball and volleyball teams.
Jarred’s children were his pride and joy, and he treasured most of all, time spent visiting with each of them and their respective families. He was also a devout Christian, strong in his faith, and a man who loved the Lord and his church, including singing in the church choir and serving as a Deacon in his earlier years.
