Janice Jean Fountain Newman
July 28, 1940 — June 5, 2024
 
Jan was born in Albany, New York, on July 28, 1940. She passed away peacefully at home, on June 5th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Jan was 83 years old. Her parents, John Fountain and Vesta McEachron provided a loving home for Jan. She enjoyed living on the grounds of Schuyler Mansion in New York, mowing lawns with her father, caring for her dog, Silver and horse, Nipper, and spending time with her extended family. After the death of her mother, Jan and her father moved to Texas. She attended Henrietta M. King High School in Kingsville, Texas. Jan met her husband, Jack Newman, while living in Texas and married on February 7, 1958. They remained married until Jack died in 1984. 

Jan and Jack would move to Milford, Connecticut where they raised their children. She worked at BIC Corporation in Connecticut and as a visiting home health aide for Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Later in life, Jan earned an Associate in Arts Degree (May 1988) from Iowa Western Community College. In addition, she performed over 10,000 hours of volunteer work at various private schools in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area.

Jan loved spending time with her family and friends, taking drives in the country, and going to the grocery store. She enjoyed reading books and completing crossword puzzles.
   
She is survived by children: Mary “Jeannie” (Lynn), John (Melissa), Jack Jr., Cheryl (Malcom) Boxwell; grandchildren: Marlene (Mike) Reed, Jackson, Jack, and Joshua; three great-grandchildren Brennen (Aleyna) Kreps, Brianna (Chance) Reed, and Brittany Reed; and one great-great grandchild: Isaac Valenzuela; and half-sister Jean Tilford of Argyle, New York. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant son. 
 
A visitation will be held Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th Street, Omaha, NE. The funeral will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church 1920 N. 102nd Street, Omaha, NE. She will be interred at West Liberty Cemetery in Glenwood, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to St. Jude Children Research Hospital or Nebraska Humane Society.
