Age 85 -  Jim passed away on December 30, 2022. He was born on February 12, 1937 in Omaha, NE to Esther (Ashman) and Bert Van Roy. He was the fifth of eight siblings, with two sisters and five brothers.

Jim married Janice Bennett on June 29, 1957 in Omaha. Jim and Jan were married for 65 years and had four sons -- Jim Jr., Jay, Jeffrey and Joseph.  The twins, Jeffrey and Joseph, passed away shortly after their birth in 1970.

Jim loved his cabin on the Missouri River just outside of Tekamah, NE and was heartbroken when it flooded in 2011. He also loved fishing, following Husker Football, making huge breakfasts at the cabin, telling silly jokes and creating goodhearted mischief. For many years, he owned gas/service stations in the Omaha area.  He retired as a mechanic for the City of Omaha.

An eternal optimist, he was awaiting a cure for his Parkinson’s Disease.

He was loved beyond measure.

Preceded in death by parents, Bert & Esther Van Roy; twin sons, Jeffrey and Joseph, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Survived by wife of 65 years, Janice; children, James, Jr. (Diana), Jay (Stacy); 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother and a host of other loving family and friends.                     

Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday at Roeder Mortuary. Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM Friday (1/6/2023) at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 5801 Oak Hills Drive, Omaha, NE. Interment at Calvary Cemetery of Omaha, NE.  Memorials to American Parkinson Association.
