James Robert Kirlin

James Robert Kirlin was born was born January 5^th, 1935 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to James and Marguerite Kirlin. Jim passed away September 23^rd, 2023 surrounded by family.

Following his service in the Navy as a combat medic, Jim embarked on a successful career as a barber. He owned his own barber shop and prided himself on providing excellent service to his clients. Later in life, he worked as an engineer for the District 66 school system.

Jim had a passion for various hobbies throughout his life.  His love for hunting and fishing eventually evolved into a fascination with wildlife photography. Later in life, Jim found solace and camaraderie in cycling. He rode hundreds of miles over the years with his cycling family into his mid 80’s. He also enjoyed reading countless novels and poetry books and listening to various types of music.

James will forever be remembered for his warm heart and unwavering love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Marguerite Kirlin; wife Esther Kirlin; brother William Kirlin; and niece Mary LaPlante. He is survived by companion Earline Peterson; sister Mary Jane Kirlin; stepchildren Rose Ann (Robert) Wolfe and Debra (Richard) Laughlin; nieces and nephews Dennis (Diane) Kirlin, Kevin (Merche) Kirlin, Gwen Kirlin, James (Marcia) Kirlin, and Kim (Sean) McLernon; grandchildren Rod (Wendy) Wolfe, Amy (Dan) Morrison, Thomas Laughlin, and Michael (Chyann) Laughlin; as well as great-grandchildren Brittany, Ashley, Rebecca, Matthew, Madison, Avery, Jase, and Jaxson.

Services to honor and celebrate Jim’s life will be held on October 6, 2023. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Roeder Mortuary - 108th Street Chapel in Omaha, NE. Memorial service to follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A luncheon will be served following the memorial service at the Presbyterian Church of the Master- 10710 Corby Circle in Omaha, NE. A burial ceremony will then be conducted at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Memorial Park & Crematory in Omaha at 2:30 PM.
