James A. Jacobs

Omaha - James “Jim” Andrew Jacobs passed away on October 10 at age 73. Born November 9, 1950, in Omaha, NE, son of Weldon “Cork” and Genne (Fouts) Jacobs. He attended Rosehill Elementary and graduated from Benson High School, where he began shaping his unique character—part thinker, part jokester and always a tinkerer. Jim spent his entire career with the telephone company, a firm believer in the ‘Church of Ma Bell.’

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother David, and niece Sarah. He is survived by daughter Cassie Jacobs (Gabriel Sjoberg), wife Patty Jacobs, brother Matt (Marcia) Jacobs, sisters Beth (Bill) Mackey and Janet Miller, dear friends BJ Benesh, Bob & Linda Holdsworth, Robin Alford and son, Caleb, numerous relatives, in-laws, friends and countless unfinished projects—a fitting tribute to a man who was never done making, fixing and creating.

A consummate father, a loyal friend and a gentle giant in every sense of the word, Jim lived life with humor and a light heart. His favorite sayings, "Don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s ALL small stuff," and "Go buy some lumber, build yourself a bridge, and get over it!" embodied his easygoing nature and infectious outlook on life. Jim never took life too seriously. He was a jack-of-all-trades, mechanically inclined and far too large a character to be fully captured in these words.

His generosity was legendary. The platelet donation center techs knew him by name. And he was the first one you called in the dead of winter when it was sub-zero and your garage door wouldn't open; the toilet was making weird noises; the restaurant's industrial stove wouldn't work; the plants needed water or a custom hanging planter; or you needed research on the most obscure car part no one ever heard of.

In lieu of flowers, Jim would probably tell you to go buy some lumber and build yourself (or someone else) something. His spirit, laughter and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will forever live on in the projects he started, the people he loved, the laughter he sparked and the hearts he touched.

The family will hold a visitation on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, noon – 4 p.m. at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th St. A celebration of life is being planned following the holiday season.
