J W Sheppard was born on June 14, 1944 in Bossier City, Louisiana, to his mother, Johnnie Smith. He passed away peacefully with his wife Joyce by his side on May 7, 2024 in Omaha, Nebraska.
J W was also known as “Sonny,” accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.
J W went on to art school at American Commercial College in Shreveport, Louisiana. After graduation he went on to work for US West. He worked there for 30 years before he retired.
On June 13, 1980, J W married the love of his life, Joyce.
J W enjoyed playing computer games and doing puzzles. He always gave good advise, he was very wise and was a good listener. One thing was for sure, you did not want to make him angry. JW loved his family and he will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
J W is preceded in death by mother, Johnnie Smith; grandsons, Donald "Bubba" and Keggin Mays and brother, Kenneth Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce Sheppard; daughter, Lawanda Mays of Omaha, NE; sons, Anthony (Jennifer) Sheppard of York, NE and Gerald Mays of Pheonix, AZ; grandchildren, Jaytion, Rhaland, Michael, Courtney, Adam, Kevin and Little Anthony; great grandchildren, Cruz, Marlee and Noah; brother, Charles Smith, Dennis (Dale) Smith; sisters, Yvonne (Don) Rebels, Mary Smith all siblings from Bossier City, LA and a host of other grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Friday (5/17/2024) at Roeder Mortuary, 4932 Ames Avenue, Omaha, NE. Visitation from 10 – 11 AM with Funeral Service at 11 AM. Services will be livestreamed below.Friday, May 17, 2024
