Gwendolyn A. Showers

Gwendolyn A. Showers, 84, died Saturday, August 17th, 2024.

Gwen was born March 10th, 1940 in Ottumwa , IA, to Raymond and Mary Harry. She grew up in Ottumwa with a large, loving, extended family which included many aunts, uncles, cousins, and her beloved Irish grandmother, Grandma Annie.

She attended college at Ottumwa Heights Junior College, Creighton University, and later graduated from Midland Lutheran College. She was employed at Keene Memorial Library from 1977 to 2015 and served for many years as an AFSCME union steward. She was a voracious reader, an avid NASCAR and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, and a lover of animals, both great and small.

She was a loving mother, that wasn't afraid to stand up and speak up for her children, when needed. She loved being a grandma and adored her time spent with her family.

Survivors include: daughters: Mary Hillman of Lincoln, NE, Marta Kuti, and Anne (Andrew) Schmidt, all from Omaha, NE; sons: John Showers (Bobbi) and Michael Showers, all from Fremont, NE; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Carole Rae Harry.

Special heartfelt thanks and love to all of the staff from Endless Journey Hospice who provided her with exceptional care and comfort and much needed support for her family.
