Grant W. Mussman

With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Grant William Mussman on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025 at the age of 45.

Born on April 11, 1980 in Fremont, NE, Grant was baptized on May 25, 1980 at First Lutheran Church and confirmed there as well as a young man. Grant was the beloved son of Gaylord & Vali Mussman. He grew up in Fremont, but spent many a weekend with his cousins at his grandparents’ homes in Ohiowa or Lincoln, NE. While attending Fremont High School, Grant was a high-achieving scholar, an Eagle Scout, and distinguished debater. He went on to continue his passion of speaking in front of others throughout college at Creighton University with a major in Communication and serving as President of Alpha Phi Omega, the coed service fraternity. Following graduation, he served a year of volunteerism with Lutheran Volunteer Corps in Minneapolis, MN helping with the legal elements of people seeking asylum from Somalia. Grant finished his academic career earning his MBA from University of Nebraska at Lincoln, while working for Gallup. Grant then served as a State Farm Agent and various other professional roles in insurance. Grant fulfilled his passion of helping and communicating through a wide network of friends, colleagues, and customers.

Grant was a loving husband for 16 years to Karin, whom he met in college and with whom he had two beautiful, loving, fun, children. More than anything, Grant was a proud and loving father to his two boys: Rex, 14 and Chase, 11. He found his greatest happiness in being with them on their annual trips to various MLB stadiums, watching sporting events together, trying new barbeque places, and watching them grow. His love, guidance, and fandom as a loud and proud Jaysker will live on through them.

Grant enjoyed regular dinners with his sister Gena, brother-in-law Aaron, and their daughters Isabel & Alena. He loved playing card games, especially Pitch, watching movies and sports, and hanging out drinking coffee while chatting with nearly anyone.

Grant is survived by his children: Rex and Chase and their mother: Karin; parents: Gaylord and Vali; sister: Gena Van Osdel (Aaron) and nieces: Isabel and Alena; and many friends who were touched by his kindness and warmth. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Knud & Carolyn Larsen and Kenneth & Nadine Mussman; uncle: Gregg Larsen; and second cousin: Ava Ledesma.

Throughout his adult life, Grant battled with anxiety and bipolar disorder and was always grateful for the community of love and support surrounding him. Grant will always be remembered for his personable and charismatic attitude, his spirit of service, his unwavering love for his family. and during the milestone moments in his boys’ lives in which he will be deeply missed.
