Gerald L. Baker, Sr.

Dr. Baker entered into eternal peace after significant complications following a massive heart attack around 1:00 am on August 4th, 2026, at Brookstone Meadows Rehabilitation Center. Prior weeks had been spent recovering and being cared for by several doctors and family members, fighting hard until his final breath.

Jerry was born December 26th, 1947, in Denver, Colorado to Edna Roos. He grew up in Lusk, Wyoming where he graduated from high school in 1966, then attended University of Wyoming for undergraduate schooling until 1970, and finally graduating from University of Nebraska Medical Center where he completed medical school for orthopedic medicine in 1974. His Residencies brought him to Honolulu, HI, Pasadena, CA, and finally to Pheonix, AZ. Eventually, Jerry settled in Gillette, WY where he provided 31 years of outstanding care as a physician, and founded and ran Gillette Bone and Joint Clinic.

While attending University of Nebraska Medical Center, Jerry met and fell in love with Linda, whom he married in 1972.

Jerry and Linda adopted 2 children, Gerald Lee Jr in 1980 and Shelley Lynn in 1987, and raised a beautiful family on a small acreage in Gillette.

Jerry was known for being an avid fan and active supporter of both University of Wyoming and University of Nebraska athletics, with a deep loyalty to football. Other interests extended to attending both Colorado Rockies baseball and Denver Broncos football games. Other loved interests were family vacations, 10+ years of worldwide cruises, and being part of a family farming business which continues to this day.

Dr. Baker is survived by his family, including wife Linda, son Jerry Jr., and daughter Shelley and her family including spouse Jon, and children (Jerry’s grandchildren) Blaze, Braxtin, Livia, and Hazely. Also 2 nieces and their families, Cyndi Bailey and Tammy Webster. Lastly a sister-in-law Cindy Sheer and her children of Scottsbluff Nebraska.

Preceded in death by his mother, Edna, step-father Art Scheer, and half-brother Jim, and nephew Jimmy.

Memorials can be sent to the Cowboy Joe Club, with University of Wyoming, in honor of his love for education and athletics, as well as the Gretna Fire and Rescue squad in Gretna, NE.

Visitation 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Gretna United Methodist Church.

Memorial Service 11:00 AM Thursday (8/13/2026) at Gretna United Methodist Church 11457 S 204th Street Gretna, Nebraska.
