George Samuel Raishy, age 90, passed away Friday, August 12, 2022, at home. George was born in North Tarrytown, NY April 15, 1932, to Theodore G. Raishy and Impi M. Naukkarinen. He was proceeded in death by his wife Joan ; parents, Theodore and Impi; and Sister Julia Raishy.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Douglas Holmberg and Gail and Tim McKay; his grandchildren Meredith and Morgan Holmberg, Jacob and, wife, Logen McKay, and Nolan McKay; his great-grandchild Theodore Holmberg.

George served in the U.S Air force from 1951 to 1955. Three of the four-year enlistment was spent in England, stationed at the Burtonwood RAF base as a member of the 7559th Air Police Squadron. It was during this tour of duty where he met the love of his life, Joan Anderson. They were married in North Tarrytown, NY on November 10, 1956.

He graduated from the N.Y. Institute of Criminology, and in 1956 began his affiliation with Mutual of Omaha with the D.C. Coverly Agency in White Plains, NY. From 1963 to 1973 he served as Regional Claims Manager working out of Ann Arbor, MI. From 1973 until his retirement in 1994 he worked out of Mutual of Omaha’s Home office.

He loved travel, photography, and all sporting activities, including tennis, skiing, bowling, and golf. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was our Captain America. He taught us to protect and care for those in need, to make time for the ones you love, to treat others with respect and kindness, and to not give up during challenges, but instead lead with integrity and the strength to carry on. That legacy will live on through each of us.

Memorial Service: 5pm Friday, August 26, with VISITATION 1 hour prior from 4-5pm at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th Street, Omaha, NE. A private service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church where he was a member and served as an usher. Ashes are to be retained in the church Columbarium.
