11710 Standing Stone Dr. Gretna, NE 68028 332-0090 George Mathias Schram was born to Ella and John Peter Schram on February 6, 1930, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.  He passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 8, 2021. As a young boy, George was active helping his father farm on the homestead/ranch. George graduated from Papillion High School.  After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on an air craft carrier during the Korean War.  When he returned home, he began farming in Springfield, Nebraska, where he continued to farm all of his life. On August 12, 1967, George married Kay .  They were blessed with three children:  Peter from Indiana, Paul from Omaha, and Mary from Gretna, and seven grandchildren:  Lauren, 18, Katie, 17, Ashlee, 16, Sara, 16, Ty, 14, Luke, 11, and Emily, 10. George’s faith was always extremely important to him and gave him comfort and peace throughout his entire life.  His passion and livelihood was farming. In his early years, farming was a family affair which required hard work and deep faith that he’d be able to provide for his family. George loved spending time outside and watching his grandchildren have fun together.  One of the highlights of his retirement was working as a train engineer at Vala’s Pumpkin Patch. George was soft-spoken yet strong; he always worked and prayed hard. Having grown up during the Great Depression, George loved figuring out ways to fix things with whatever he had on hand. George was preceded in death by his parents, John Peter and Ella Schram; his sister, Josephine, and his infant daughter, Ellen Marie.  He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Kay; sons: Peter and Paul , daughter: Mary Kersten; grandchildren: Lauren and Ashlee Schram, Sara and Luke Schram, and Katie, Ty and Emily Kersten; sisters:  Sister Mary Eleanor Schram, Margaret Pfeifer, and Rita Ramm, and many nieces and nephews.
