George passed away on April 12, 2025 after a 12 year battle with cancer. George was born in Lincoln, NE to Marie and George Horst, Sr. on November 13, 1937. He is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 63 years; sons David and John (Angela); granddaughters Emily Jewell (Jeremy), Lauren, Jadyn and Kalyn; and great granddaughter Maliya Jewell.
George grew up in Lincoln, NE where he graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska with bachelor degrees in Marketing and Finance. He proudly served in the Nebraska Air National Guard from 1956-1962. He worked as a printer and managed a large plastics company for 28 years. Retiring in 2004, he started a very successful sight glass company, Jikoh Mfg. which continues to grow today.
He had many interests such as wood working, pen making, model airplanes, WW II history and beyond, fishing, boating, brewing wine and beer, the WW II 100th Bomb Group, and his biggest love of owning Corvettes and membership in The Cornhusker Corvette Club. He loved to travel and was able to visit several foreign countries and all 50 states. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. George had many friends and was a true patriot who loved his country.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the leukemia and lymphoma society.
A memorial service will be held at Living Water Lutheran Church, 4141 North 156th Street, Omaha, NE 68116, on Saturday April 26, 2025. Visitation starting 9:30 am, funeral 11:00 am and luncheon following at noon.
