Gaynell Marie Scholting (Shepherd), 86, spent her last earthly days before arriving in heaven, surrounded by her husband of 67 years and family. Gaynell spent her life in the Springfield, Nebraska area and attended Springfield First United Methodist church. In addition to partnering with her husband to build a life together in agriculture and raise their family, Gaynell volunteered her time with the United Methodist Women and Round Tuit craft group, County 4-H, and Extension groups. Midlife found Gaynell traveling and participating in Tractor Pull events with her husband, Don. In retirement, Gaynell enjoyed quilting, reading and jigsaw, sudoku and word search puzzles.
Gaynell is survived by her husband, Don, children; Don D Scholting, Diane Keller (Dan) and Darlene Scholting; 6 granddaughters and 5 (number 6 arrives in December!) great-grandchildren. Sisters; Donna Webster (Tom), Karen DeLuna (Daniel) and Kathie Smith (Norm); sisters-in-laws Marian Cunningham (Bill) and Diane Scholting (Ed); brother-in-law John Scholting (Melissa), and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oswald and Helen Shepherd (Thiessen) and infant son, Dennis Leroy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Springfield First United Methodist Church, Springfield Library, and Springfield Fire and Rescue.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 4-6pm, at Roeder Mortuary, 11710 Standing Stone Dr, Gretna, NE 68028
A Celebration of Life service will be held on November 27, 2023 at 10:30am, at Springfield United Methodist Church, 480 Main St, Springfield, NE 68059.
