Gary J. Hutter

Gary John Hutter, 82, of Gretna, Nebraska, passed away early the morning November 7th, 2024, following a day spent with his loving family remembering a life well-lived.  

Gary was born in 1941 Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin where he lived until he joined the U.S. Navy at 17. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville’s Civil Engineering program.  

He worked in civil engineering for several years before moving to management with Central Soya and finally retired after many years as a Director of Quality Assurance in the animal feed industry. 

Gary will always be remembered for his good sense of humor, including endless “dad jokes”, fresh homemade bread, his love of the outdoors, and his proclivity for DIY projects. His work took him around the world, and he loved telling the stories from his adventures.  

Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Trudy; his two daughters, Nicole (Jeremy) Nelson and Jessica (Samuel) Saunders; his son, Russell Hutter; and his grandchildren, Hanna Nelson, Millicent Saunders, Phoebe Saunders, and Arthur Saunders. He is preceded in his death by his parents Irene and George Hutter, and his sister Sharon Prieve. 

A celebration of his life will be held in Wisconsin in the summer.
