Garrett “Gary” Waters Jr. III was born on December 7, 1939 to Garrett “Billie” and Edith (Putzstuck) Waters.

He passed away peacefully at his home in Omaha on November 30, 2023.

Gary graduated from North Bend High School in 1957 and enlisted and served in the Air Force for 3 years before moving to Omaha.

He married Donna Waters on March 30, 1968, and they enjoyed 54 years together until her passing.

He started working at Electric Fixture & Supply/3E in 1967 and retired after 48 ½ years with the company.  Upon retirement, he began volunteering at the Nebraska Humane Society which wasn’t a surprise due to his lifelong love of animals.  At one point, he was even recognized as Volunteer of the Year.

Life changed drastically for him when Donna passed away a little over a year ago.  He missed her immensely, but took on the challenges of learning to cook, clean and even baking with mixed results. She would have been proud of his efforts!

Over the years he enjoyed golf, baseball, Nebraska Football (“they are rebuilding”), being outdoors, chatting with neighbors and those along the trail, walking his spoiled lap dog, Katie around the neighborhood, and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  A dedicated friend, avid animal lover, known for being kindhearted, helping other people and trying to make people smile or laugh.

He was a simple man and put others first every single day.  Per his wishes, there will be no funeral services.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-mother, Mary Jo Waters; siblings Bernard, Bob and Peggy; step-brother, John Hall.

He is survived by his furkid. Katie; children: Traci and Todd; grandchildren: Adam, Evelyn, and Aaron; sisters-in-law: Carol Cole (Jim) and Jodi Werner (Bruce); and honorary family, Teri Sonnenfield. Many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Food Bank of the Heartland or Nebraska Humane Society.
