Gale (Gus) Lennart Moore, age 84, of Gretna, Nebraska passed away at the Meadows Care Center-Ashland NE. on March 21, 2024.
Gus was born on January 3, 1940, to Don Moore and Irene (Androy) Bollinger. He lived near Moorhead, IA on a family farm throughout his High School years. After high school and a short attempt at farming, he moved to Omaha, NE where he held various jobs, among them loading barges for Cargill on the Missouri River. In Omaha he lived with friends Bob Withem and Jim Rowley, who introduced him to Patricia Rose. Romance bloomed and they married on August 28, 1960, at Pat’s home church, Zion Lutheran in Arcadia, Iowa. Pastor Theo A. Tews officiated, and prior to the wedding he baptized Gus. In 1961, their son Steve, was born. Later the family moved from Omaha and lived in Westside and Arcadia Iowa. After working other jobs, he finally found his true calling: SALES! He began this career with Tractor Supply in Carroll, IA.
In 1965, after the birth of their second child, Sheryl, they moved to Kankakee, Il where Gus managed a Tractor Supply Store. In 1967 the family moved to what was to be their lifetime home, 410 Pontiac Drive, Gretna, NE. Gus’s career with Tractor Supply continued in Omaha, NE. In December of 1969, their daughter, Sheila, was born. He eventually left Tractor Supply and worked for several companies in Omaha and Lincoln selling everything from chain saws to heavy construction equipment.
Gus was active in Gretna Community service: City Council, City Planning Board, Police Magistrate, The Original Gretna Softball League, Jaycees, and coaching Little League. He also taught Hunter Safety Classes for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for more than 25 years and received multiple service awards for his efforts. Gus and Pat assisted as Gretna High School Band Parents for many years and travelled with the band to Orlando and Kansas City.
Missouri Synod Lutheran faith has always been an important part of the Moore family. Inspired by Pat and Gus who helped start 3 Missouri Synod Lutheran churches; Good Shepherd in Gretna, Divine Shepherd in Millard, and another church in Illinois.
Gus also loved hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes and spending time with family and friends. His favorite job of all time was cashier/ “store manager” at Cabela’s, in LaVista. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge on everything from fishing lures to firearm purchases.
Gus is survived by his children and their spouses: Steve and Cindy Moore of Gretna; Sheryl and Fred Gartner of Lincoln; Sheila and Mark Sedlacek of Nehawka, Nebraska; grandchildren: Mike (Nicholette) Gartner, Aubrey (Robby) Ludwig, Drew Kohlbek, Mallary Kohlbek, Kyle Moore, Joel Gartner, Sofia (Joey) Kratochvil, and Jennifer Sedlacek; great-grandson: Russell Gartner; Sister-in-law Janet Rose; half-brother and sister: Phillip and Kaye Moore; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia, brother and sister-in-law, DeLloyd and Mary Jo Moore, sister-in-law and her husband, Marcia and John Bretey, and brother-in-law Richard Rose.
Funeral Services, Thursday, April 4th at 11AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 11204 S 204th St Gretna, NE. Visitation at church at 10AM.
