Elizabeth May Peterson (Betty) was born on May 29, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska to Marjorie and Harold Peterson. The first ten years were spent on Grandpa Peterson’s farm SE of Craig, Nebraska. In 1944, the style of limited electricity, no running water, the Monarch cooking stove in the kitchen, and the outhouse, were traded for “civilization” called the thriving metropolis of Craig, Nebraska.
It was in Craig where Betty graduated high school in 1951. Betty was a mainstay helper to the folks in the endeavor called “Pete’s Café.” After high school graduation, Betty attended the University of Nebraska where she achieved the Degree of Graduate Nurse on August 19, 1955. She received her student Nurses cap on March 29, 1953. Betty then went on to the University of Nebraska where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing on June 11, 1956.
Betty loved to travel. She lived with her mom, so they traveled to many places together. One of her favorite places was Alaska. The first time she went was with her mother. After that she went with Ken and Terry (her brother and sister-in-law) in their motor home.
Betty retired from the University of Nebraska Medical Center at Omaha after 36 years of dedicated service. She spent a great deal of that time taking care of cancer patients.
Assisting others was Betty’s character as she looked after friends, and she would drive them as required and provide assistance to as many that needed it. Betty also gave her life to Christ by conducting Bible studies and being active in her church, which was so important to her.
Betty is survived by her brother: Ken; sister-in-law: Terry Ellen; nephew: Christopher; niece: Candis; and five grand-nieces.
