Doris M. Scheer

Doris Marie (Wagner) Scheer
December 3, 1955 – October 17, 2022

Doris Marie (Wagner) Scheer was born in Colby, Kansas, on December 3, 1955, to Bennie Max and Dorothy Oliene Wagner. In typical Doris style she showed up three weeks early. She was fiercely loved by her siblings, Susan, Marcus, Oliene, Michelle and Collette. She lived in Brewster, Kansas, until she was three years old and then moved to Blue Hill, Nebraska, where she lived until 1958. Her family then moved Creighton, Nebraska, where she attended and graduated from Creighton Community High School in 1974.

She was an avid swimmer and loved her days as a lifeguard at the local pool. She played clarinet and spent her free time with family and working hard to support herself and her family. Doris moved to Norfolk, Nebraska, after high school where she met her future husband, Tom. They were married on August 7, 1976, in Norfolk. Doris welcomed her first born on May 8, 1978. Nicholas was her whole world. She stayed home with him and volunteered her time in his school. Later they welcomed her daughter, Anna, on July 20, 1981.

Doris was the best mom; she was involved in every aspect of her children’s lives. She was their number one cheerleader and believed all things were possible for her children and did all she could to help them. Doris and Tom had a wonderful marriage filled with moments of pure joy and supported each other in moments of absolute devastation when they lost their son, Nic.

Doris spent her time in her garden and had some of the prettiest flower gardens around. She loved animals and if you ever went to their home in Norfolk, you could easily see that. She fed squirrels, birds, and even had a flock of geese who loved to call her place home. She loved having horses and she and Tom spent most evenings out with the ponies feeding them and just enjoying the view. They could often be found motoring around in the golf cart just visiting together.

Anna and Gabriel Stech were married in 2006. In May of 2009, her granddaughters Abigail and Sophia were born. They were the absolute light in her life. She adored them with every fiber of her being. It was her sole purpose to make sure they felt loved each and every day. She attended all things and never missed a moment. Abigail and Sophia loved their grandma dearly and enjoyed sleepovers, baking together and teaching her new games. Doris sadly lost her soul mate on May 13, 2014. Her broken heart never quite recovered.

Doris moved to Gretna in August of 2018, to be closer to her family. Gabe and Doris were quite the pair, and their banter was legendary. She was as much his mom as Anna’s, and he will miss her wit and never ending yard maintenance questions. We enjoyed the past four years with her immensely and are  grateful for everyday we had with her. Doris was reunited with her husband and son on October 17, 2022.
