Doris was born March 17, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. After her mother’s death in 1934, Doris was raised by her grandparents with the support of many aunts and uncles. Doris graduated from Tekamah High School then moved to Omaha to find work. Doris worked full-time at Mutual of Omaha, advancing from typewriters to computers, all to help her family flourish. She and her husband, Nick, made sure that all of their children were able to graduate with College Degrees. Doris loved and cherished all her children and their families.
Doris was a devout Lutheran, supporting her church and attending services in person or on-line, as her health allowed. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed clothing for her family, including suits and formals. Doris enjoyed attending dances and concerts. Besides caring for her grandchildren, Doris’ favorite pass-time was supporting the University of Nebraska sports teams. Doris and her husband, along with Lois and her husband, had permanent/reserved tickets to all the home football games and supported the Huskers during health, sickness, in the sunshine, rain and snow. Many Christmas gifts to family members were red articles of clothing, shirts and sweaters, etc. so that everyone could support “Go Big Red”.
