Gretna - Donna Irene Doolittle

Born September 26, 1941 to Walter and Helen (Shimonek) Yonkey in Lincoln, Nebraska. Entered into eternal rest on August 16, 2026.

Survived by children Doree Doolittle of Omaha, son Bradley (Rebekah) Doolittle of Elkhorn, grandchildren Christopher Doolitle, Kevin (Hailey) McClure, Derek (Kymberley) McClure, Phoebe Doolittle and greatgrandchildren Everleigh, Eliska, Bear, Sonnet and Sutton. Also survived by sisters Doris Hall of Exeter, Nebraska, Mary Carlson of Hallock, Minnesota, brother Walter (Terry) Yonkey (Sandra) of Bennet, Nebraska, brothers and sisters in law Lynn (Carol) Doolittle and Robert (Caryl) Doolittle all of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Preceded in death by parents, sister Marjorie Bauers and infant sister Jeannie.

Donna grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High. She then worked at the State of Nebraska Test Lab and was a secretary at the State Highway Patrol and at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln. She also worked other part time jobs while waiting for Don to return from Army duty. Upon his return they were married and moved to Columbus, Nebraska.

While living in Columbus for the next 40 years, she worked as a secretary at a medical clinic, secretary and treasurer of Federated Church and part time at an accounting firm during tax season. She was active in Federated Church teaching Sunday school and member of the Women’s Fellowship. She was a Master Gardner in Platte County and was a board member of the Platte County Food Pantry. Donna was also a trainer for Weight Watchers in Columbus, Gretna, Bellevue and Papillion.

In 2006 after retirement, Don and Donna moved to Gretna, NE to be closer to their family. They joined Gretna United Methodist Church where Donna was active in the women’s group, ushering, bible study and other activities including heading up the community garden project. She also worked part time at Sun Valley Gardens in Gretna and was a participant in the quilting group at Resurrection Lutheran Church.

Donna enjoyed spending time with family and their activities, gardening, reading, sewing, quilting, belonging to several card groups and garden clubs and traveling. She and Don took many trips including to Ireland, Hawaii and Alaska along with many auto and bus trips all over the United States.

They particularly enjoyed gospel quartet concerts and yearly trips to Branson. They were married for 60 years.
