Donald Lee Pinneo was born in Omaha to Joseph and Mable Pinneo on December 15, 1935. The youngest of three children, Don’s early years were shaped by the loss of his mother at age five and his father’s career as a long-haul truck driver. His older siblings and several caring families helped raise him, and he found a second father figure in Al, a farmer whom Don affectionately described as “a prince of a man.”
Don served in the U.S. Army and later married his first wife, Joyce. Together they raised three children: Dale, Linda, and Daniel. He went on to become a line-haul driver for Hyman Trucking, earning recognition for more than three million accident-free miles.
Don experienced significant loss throughout his life, including the deaths of his young son, his wife Joyce at age 57, and his son Dale in 2023. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law Tim and stepdaughter Lori.
In later years, Don faced emphysema with acceptance and resilience. Despite life’s challenges, he remained kind, thoughtful, and quick-witted. Reflecting on his life, he once shared, “I met and married two wonderful women and overall, have been a very lucky man.”
Don had a deep curiosity and zest for life. His interest in others made all who knew him feel important and special. He enjoyed his years marching with the Shriners, travelling the country with family, taking in a beautiful sunrise, golfing with buddies, attending musicals and plays, and mowing at the golf course well into retirement—right up to age 88. He was a devoted companion and caregiver to his wife until the day he passed.
Don is survived by his wife of 26 years, Janice; daughter, Linda; stepson, Randy (Kim); stepdaughter, Connie (Jim); grandchildren Stacy (Mark), Wendy (Kevin), Cory, Ashley (Joe), Jaime, Sara (Tyler), Jennie (Lloyd), Carlie (Steven), Ali (Dan), and Anna (George); and 11 great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered for his booming voice, quick witted “Donisms”, sentimental heart, and wonderful laugh.
He will be deeply missed but will remain in our hearts forever.
Burial of ashes will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday, November 25th, 2025 at 2pm.
