Springfield - Donald (Don) Frederick Scholting, 90, a lifelong Springfield, Nebraska resident, lived his life valuing relationships with family and friends, always greeting others with a smile, a warm handshake, and a story to share.
Don spent his early years alongside his family, learning agriculture and the skills needed for the family equipment repair business, Scholting Repair. Don operated the business after the loss of his father and the business continued for three generations. He attended Sanborn country school and is an honorary high school graduate.
He married Gaynell Shepherd in 1956, and together they partnered to build a life in agriculture, operate the repair business, and raise their family. They enjoyed polka music and gatherings with family and neighbors.
Don found an interest in local tractor pulling events, which evolved into regional and national competitions, for over 50 years. He and Gaynell enjoyed their time traveling and the many, many dear friendships made in this season of life.
Don is survived by their children: Don D. Scholting, Diane Keller (Dan), and Darlene Scholting; six granddaughters and six great grandchildren (numbers 7&8 arriving in September!); Sister, Marian Cunningham (Bill) and Brother, John Scholting (Melissa); Sisters-in-laws; Donna Webster (Tom), Karen DeLuna (Daniel), and Kathie Smith (Norm), and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Gaynell; infant son, Dennis Leroy; and parents, Leroy and Mildred Scholting.
