Donald Leroy Poast was born in Omaha on May 20, 1937 to Francis (Frank) and Viva Poast. On August 3, 2026 he went to heaven to be with his Savior.
Don attended Omaha North High School graduating in 1955. He went on to attend the University of Omaha studying Engineering and Business.
He married his high school sweetheart, Gwen, on August 23, 1957. They were a couple for 72 years.
Don worked for Metropolitan Utilities District for 41 years. He started as a laborer, on to certified welder, machinist, and then was promoted to Senior Maintenance Mechanic.
Don accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior in September of 1971 while at a Navigators Christian Ministry Conference at Glen Eyrie, CO. He was baptized at Florence Christian Church. Don loved to lead Bible studies. He and Gwen had a weekly Bible study in their home for many years. Don served as a lay minister and led services at North Omaha care facilities and OHA residential towers. Eagles Nest Worship Center (ENWC) Body Shop, a home fellowship group of 12 people, met at the house for more than 10 years on the first Friday of each month. Don and Gwen were co-leaders of the ENWC prayer chain since 2003.
He loved Colorado. Fishing and hiking were a must for summer vacation.
Serving his Lord, driving grandchildren to and from school, transporting for school field trips, being ‘Delivery Don’ for St. Paul School were some of his jobs after retirement. He could repair almost anything.
Don is survived by his wife, Gwen, children David, Donald and Carol, and Ruth and Mike Hill, brother Gene and Sandy of Ohio and sister Judith Newman of Omaha, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, daughters by marriage, and a host of brothers and sisters in Christ.
Visitation 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday (8/11/2026) at Roeder Mortuary 108th St. Chapel; Service 11:00 AM Wednesday (8/12/2026) at Roeder Mortuary 2727 N. 108th St. Omaha, NE; Private burial at Ft. Calhoun Cemetery in Ft. Calhoun, NE.
