Denise (Neec) Bowyer

Omaha - Denise Maria Bowyer, lovingly known as " Neec" was born February 12, 1956 in Omaha, Ne to Bruce and Mary Bowyer.

The 3rd of 6 children, she quickly found her place in a large Irish Catholic family. Her Irish Eyes were always smiling and some would say they even twinkled. That twinkle and smile would carry her through her many life adventures.

A graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes grade school, she ventured onto Mercy High and Briar Cliff College. It was during this time that her heart for Social Justice was formed. After graduating college, she headed to Texas where she worked as a Union Organizer for migrant farmers along with Cesar Chavez. From there her passion for equality, justice and love of people led her to American Income Life Insurance Company. She created a lifelong career working tirelessly for worker's rights. From KC MO to Minneapolis, NYC and finally Washington DC, where she retired as an Executive Vice President of Public Relations and a Senior Member of the National Labor Advisory Board.

Most recently her adventures brought her back to her hometown of Omaha, where she continued to do what she did best. GIVE- her time, her energy, her compassion, her love, HER LIGHT. Those receipients of her generous spirit are Omaha Together Once Community, Omaha Welcomes a Stranger, Mothers and Others and the Omaha Labor Community and her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Mary Bowyer. Survived by loving partner Dawn Essink and fur baby Clark Bowyer. Siblings, Patricia ( Kay) Bowyer, Michelene Bowyer, Kevin ( Paula) Bowyer, Terrence ( Teri) Bowyer and Anne Munnelly.

Countless friends and relatives. In addition she is survived by 22 of the brightest lights in her life. Her nieces and nephews. She adored them and they her. The love they shared was evident every time they were together.

She often said that her life's work was dedicated to the hope of a better world and tomorrow for them. That they may live in a world of justice and peace.

To know her was to truly love her. She would return the love you gave tenfold. She will be missed beyond words and our lives will be forever changed without her here.

May the road rise to meet you,

May the wind be at your back,

May the sun shine upon your face,

The rain fall soft upon your fields,

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand
