Gretna - Dean W. Schwaninger, age 77, passed away on October 13, 2024, in Gretna, NE. He was born to Delbert and Irene Schwaninger on October 24, 1946, in Lincoln, NE. Dean was raised in Lincoln with three younger siblings where he graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was a sonar technician on the USS Sam Rayburn. He met the love of his life, Jolene (Harvey), and they were united in marriage in 1973. They were blessed with two children, Brad and Christine. He worked as a route salesman for many years before graduating from SCC with honors and an A.A.S. in Electronics Technology. He retired from ISCO in 2013. After retirement, they moved to Gretna to be closer to family. Dean enjoyed sharing his passions with his children and grandchildren along with attending their many activities. He was an avid fisherman and Husker fan. He also enjoyed reading, cars and spending time with friends playing cards and dancing. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jolene, children Brad (RoseAnn) and Christine (Justin), grandchildren Luke, Mikayla, Grace, Nolan, Faith, Elsie and Tess, siblings Steve (Kathy), Mark (ReNae) and Patti (Scott), brother-in-law Stephen (Kathie), sister-in-law Denise (Bill) and many nieces and nephews. 


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16th at 5:00 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 508 W. Angus St, Gretna, with the Rosary following at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Gretna. A luncheon will follow at St. Patrick Parish Center. Memorials to the family to be designated later..
