Dean’s family lived in the Maxwell area, and later in North Platte until after WWII when they moved to Omaha. He attended Dundee Elementary School and graduated from Technical High School in 1952. During his high school years, Dean attended Pella Lutheran Church Luther League where he met the love of his life Mary Ann Larsen. They were married May 1, 1954. The United States Navy was Dean’s service of choice from 1954-1958 when he spent much of his tour of duty on the USS Antietam aircraft carrier. He worked most of his adult life at Omaha Public Power District, beginning as a lineman, and concluding his time there as a customer service representative. He retired in 1994.
Dean never knew a stranger. He could carry on a conversation with anyone. He was always willing to lend a hand, spending much of his life happily helping others in any way he could.
