David (Dave) Charles Matthies
January 7, 1955 – August 18, 2023 (68 years old)

Dave’s history with music started with listening to 45 rpm records of the Beatles, thousands of times; and then he saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. He knew then what he wanted to be a Musician. He asked for a drum set and Grandma Helen, got him his first set when he was 10.
Dave has been part of many bands and worked with countless musicians.
Dave’s first bands were the Black Apple Band and Shadowfax.
Dave was the drummer for The Wingnuts, a massively popular Omaha Band in 1979.
Musical Chairs as original band in Minneapolis - Dave produced multiple 45’s and LP records.

Dave produced several CDs of his original music: A Lifetime is not Long Enough / The Train has left the Station / Unauthorized Transmissions
Musical Chairs and “Because it’s you”, was featured on Mean Bean Productions in 2022 – Standing in the Shadows
Dave was inducted into the Iowa Music Hall of Fame – with the Great Imposters in 2007. And is nominated for induction into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame.
Dave’s wit and unique sense of humor is another thing that was pure Dave and we will miss.
Dave continued to mentor and share his music until his last days.
Ultimately – “my girls” - Dave’s daughters, Jessica, Melinda, Tara & April & his granddaughter Lailah – brought him joy and peace in his final days.
