Darlene Louise Kardell was born to Edward J. and Anna Groth Munderloh on March 28, 1931, on the farm southwest of Bancroft, Nebraska. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on April 26,1931. She attended Zion Lutheran parochial school and was confirmed in 1945 at Zion. She graduated from West Point High School in 1949. It was her lifelong passion to become a registered nurse. To fulfill this dream, she moved to Omaha and attended Creighton Memorial St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and graduated from there in 1952. After graduation Darlene worked at St. Joseph Hospital in psychiatry.
On a blind date she met the love of her life Robert Kardell. They were united in marriage on June 27, 1954. They settled in Phoenix, Arizona shortly after being married. While in Phoenix, Michael, Vicki, and Mark were born. In 1960 they relocated to Tucson, Arizona where Mathew was born. In 1967 the family moved back to Omaha where Scott was born. In 1977 they moved to 156th and Fort and made an old farmhouse their home. She loved living in the country again; gardening, bird watching, and spending time with her grandchildren. In 1997 they built a home in the Gretna area and lived there until Bob’s death in 2017.
Darlene was an expert knitter and seamstress. She loved to bake and was known for her cookies, cakes, and pies. She and Bob loved to travel. They had several different motorhomes over the years that took them to many destinations. She especially enjoyed fishing in Canada and taking the motorhome to Lincoln to cheer on her Nebraska Cornhuskers. She also adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, her son Michael, her parents, and her brothers-Arthur, Clarence, Melvin, and Reinold. She is survived by her daughter Vicki (Loren) Lamprecht, sons Mark (Jean), Mathew (Lori), and Scott Kardell, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren (9 boys and 1 girl), a brother Donald and wife Lois Munderloh, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law David and Joyce Kardell and Bonnie Kardell.
Darlene loved the Lord and served Him all her days. She was residing at Country House in Elkhorn Nebraska at the time of her peaceful death. She left a legacy in her children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed.
