Darlene was born April 16, 1932 in Omaha, NE and died July 20, 2023 in Gretna, NE, she was 91 years old. She was the youngest child of Henry and Lena Hansen with three older brothers, Harold, Leonard and Elmer. A baby sister died shortly after birth.
Darlene attended Gretna Public Schools and graduated in 1949 (she was the last of her graduating class). She met and started dating Bob Dietze during high school. After graduating she moved to Omaha and worked as a key punch operator for the Merchant Biscuit Company. Darlene and Bob were married on February 15, 1952 and celebrated 68 years of marriage before Bobs death in May of 2020. In 1953 they welcomed their first child Alan before Bob was drafted into the Army and sent to Germany. Daughter Susan was born in 1954, son David was born in 1962 and son William in 1965.
Darlene worked at various jobs during her life while Bob farmed with his brother Ray in the Gretna area. She was the receptionist for Dr. Preshers medical office for many years and also worked maid service at the Ben Franklin Motel but the job she loved most was being wife to Bob and mother to her children.
Darlene enjoyed many hobbies and activities during her lifetime. She and Bob square danced for many years and played Pinochle with a monthly group. In later years Darlene played Bridge in ladies groups and with Bob in mixed groups. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlepoint and many other crafts. She had a strong faith and was baptized, confirmed and married at Resurrection Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, belonged to Naomi Circle and was a 50 + year member of the Harmony Workers Extension Group. She helped make blankets for Lutheran Work Relief and for many years she organized funeral luncheons at the church. She was also a member of the Gretna American Legion Auxiliary.
Darlene and Bob also found time to travel. They went to Hawaii and took an Alaskan cruise, experienced Disneyworld and loved to go camping most summers with their family, seeing all the sights along the way. Some of their favorite trips were car trips with their lifetime friends from Illinois, Russ and Fritz Neiders.
Darlene lived a full life and has been blessed with a large family whom she spent much time with and loved dearly, and of course, many friends. She is loved and will be missed by all.
