Dara Jean Richter

Dara Jean Richter was born May 21, 1953 at Fort Stewart Base in Georgia to Don and E. Marie (Keep) Rasmussen. While her father served in the military, Dara spent her early childhood in Georgia and California. However, the majority of Dara’s childhood memories were spent in StPaul; Genoa; Akron, CO and Hastings following her father’s work career with Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Company. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1971 and married her high school sweetheart, Gary Richter, on August 17, 1973. They were blessed with three children Chad, Abbi and Reid.

Dara dedicated her life to caring for others, not only for her three children but as a registered nurse. Dara’s nursing career began at St. Elizabeth and Bryan Hospital in Lincoln. She later went to earn a bachelors in Nursing in 1993 at Midland College with dear friend, Cindy Denton. Dara was always loyal to Immanuel and gradually advanced from orthopedic nurse to house coordinator, until she retired as MAC office manager. She developed many lifelong friendships with so many of her nursing friends.

Outside of her profession, she was an avid antique collector. Whether she was traveling with her friend Kay to Round Top Texas Antique Festival or to Walnut, Iowa she always found a hidden treasure. Dara was a master gardner and enjoyed spending time outside where her flower beds and garden flourished under her loving care. Dara served as president of her PEO chapter, DY, where she developed relationships with her loving PEO sisters throughout the past 50 years.

Dara and Gary built a beautiful home in 1996 on their beloved acreage “Fossilridge Farm” along the Platte River. Building their dream home from the ground up, cherishing their family time together nurturing their land. Dara and Gary built a marriage rooted in friendship, faith, and unwavering devotion to each other. They loved traveling together in their AirStream Camper to Poudre Canyon in Colorado, balloon festivals in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Yellowstone or Glacier National Park.

Above all, she was a precious daughter, devoted wife, loving mother, and special GiGi whose love and guidance shaped the lives of her family. She found her greatest happiness spending time with her family. She would always say she was so blessed to be born into a loving family who taught her how to love the land and everyone on it. If you were lucky enough to know Dara then you were lucky enough to feel her love, kindness, and joy.

Those left to cherish her memory are her parents Don and E. Marie Rasmussen; husband of 53 years, Gary; son Chad and daughter-in-law Leslie Richter; daughter Abbi and son-in-law Jayson Stoddard; son Reid and daughter-in-law Amy Richter; grandchildren Kaleb, Levi, Owen, Ryann,

Calvin, Calla and Poppy; Brother Mike Rasmussen (Sally Rasmussen); Sister-in-law Renee Rasmussen; Mother-in-law Maxine Tobias, many nieces and nephews, not to forget the many close friends she adored.

She is preceded in death by her brother Doug Rasmussen.
