Dale L. Byrd

Dale Leo Byrd, aged 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Dale was born in Omaha to Earl and Elizabeth (Menten) Byrd. He attended St. John’s Grade School and graduated from Central High School in 1957. He joined the U.S. Army a few years later, and served in the Army Reserves for 21 years. He married Lesley Squire on May 18, 1963, and three children were born to this union. Dale was involved for many years with the National Association of Credit Managers (NACM), as a credit manager, on the board of directors, and as a staff member.  He also used his gift as a salesman in other career positions. He and Lesley enjoyed cheering on the Nebraska Huskers as well as many trips over the years with friends and family, especially his trips to Europe with his wife, Lesley, and in-laws, Maribethe and Dick. His greatest joy was the annual fishing trip on Eagle Lake in Ontario, Canada, with the family or with the “guys.” His great sense of humor, jokes, and fish stories leave unforgettable memories shared by his children and grandchildren and will be passed on to the next generation.

Dale was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus, and volunteered his time for many years at Holy Family Parish.

After the passing of his beloved wife, he found love again and married Delight (Licklider) Wreed on December 27, 2003. They enjoyed visiting family and friends, traveling to Europe and many U.S. national parks. They especially enjoyed their time visiting in Santa Fe, Taos, and San Diego.

Dale is survived by his wife: Delight; children: Mark (Kim) Byrd, Tom Byrd, Mari (Ed) Patania; step-children: Katie (Ryan) Bell, Stephanie Newman; grandchildren: Tony (Kari) Byrd, Alyssa (Ted) Kathol, Tony (Rachel) Porter, Marissa Byrd, Courtney (Mike) Lave, Kendra (Eric) Case, Ben Patania, Evan, Lauren and Violet Bell, Sebastian and Savanna Newman; great-grandchildren: Braxton and Colton Byrd, Dale Lave; in- laws: Jeff Squire, Tom (Nancy) and Dan (Sandie) Licklider, Jane Licklider; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
