Christine Weishar McDonald, age 97, a woman of wisdom, grace and beauty passed away peacefully Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert McDonald and is survived by son Robert McDonald, Jr. and wife Ann of North Muskegon MI, daughter Patricia Lincoln and husband Donald of Tajique and Albuquerque NM, and daughters Kathleen Jesse of Tajique NM and Suzanne McDonald of Albuquerque NM. She was much beloved by 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren and many friends and colleagues throughout a life that spanned almost 10 decades.
She was born in Edina Missouri in 1918 and grew up in Springfield Illinois and received her high school diploma from the Ursuline Academy. During World War II while her husband Robert was serving in Europe, Christine and their son Bobby returned to Springfield where she worked as the Director of the local Girl Scout Chapter and taught swim lessons throughout the duration of the war.
The family moved to Omaha in 1954 and Christine was very active in Cathedral Parish, St. Cecilia’s Grade School and Cathedral High School Parent groups. She also served on the Parent Advisory Board of Duchesne Academy and the Good Shepherd Society. After the death of her husband in 1973 Christine worked at Creighton University as the administrative assistant to the Dean of the College of Arts of Sciences until her retirement at age 90. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu Honorary and in 1999 she was honored with the Creighton University Distinguished Staff Service Award. In honor of her 90th birthday Fr. John Schlegel, SJ then President of the University proclaimed June 21, 2008 Christine McDonald Day at Creighton University.
The family will lay Christine to rest at Calvary Cemetery next to her husband and among the many dear friends of the Cathedral Dinner Club who have gone before her.
