Charles Kerby (known by those who cared for him as Kerby) was a man who knew what he liked—his routines, his favorite foods, and spending time with the people who mattered most. He loved his pop, popcorn, and hamburgers, and nothing made him happier than going out to eat or going on an outing, whether it was baseball, basketball, football, or wrestling. He enjoyed those outings with his friends, and while he wasn’t always a fan of change, he was quick to move on and enjoy whatever came next. Wednesdays and Fridays at Hy-Vee were special to him, and his time at home with his roommates Mike and Sam and his cat Autumn brought him great joy.
When he wasn’t out and about, Kerby could be found watching his favorite TV shows and movies—Christmas classics, westerns, sci-fi, and oldies and listening to YouTube music on his couch. He liked his routines and the simple joys of life, whether a drive to get out of the house or a relaxing evening in front of the TV. While he had a few firm dislikes (like going to the dentist or doctor, which earned his signature "um, nope"), he was easygoing and happy to go along with plans, especially if they involved food, the park, or a good ball game. Above all, Kerby enjoyed life in his own way, finding happiness in the little things and the people around him.
Charles was preceded in death by his father: Charles Kerby, Sr, and mother: Carol Kerby. He is survived by his siblings: Darlene, Melody, Mike, Dennis, Katie, Ricky, Phyllis, Theresa; lots of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and the amazing staff at Martin Luther King, Mosaic, Prism of Possibilities, and the Hy Vee at 96th and Q street.
