Charles "Chuck" Robert Allner

Charles Robert Allner was born on August 13, 1938, in Climbing Hill, Iowa, to Walter and Thelma Allner. As the third of four children, Chuck was raised on a farm and learned how to be a hard worker. Throughout his life, Chuck was always willing to help a family member or friend with any type of project.

After graduating from Climbing Hill High School in 1956, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957 where he served for 4 years. He was stationed at Goose Bay AFB located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. He was next stationed at Offutt AFB in Bellevue. While living in Omaha, Chuck met Connie Luttmann through a mutual friend. They married on August 21, 1960.

Chuck and Connie raised 3 children while living in Omaha. In 1986, Chuck and Connie built a house on an acreage outside of Gretna. Chuck reconnected with his farming roots while living on those 5 acres. At different points of time, he had farm animals—a cow, a horse, and chickens. He enjoyed planting a large garden and fixing and repairing equipment. Chuck was willing to share the excess from his garden, so family and friends could enjoy corn-on-the-cob, popcorn, tomatoes, onions, and peppers, plus fruit from his apple and peach trees.

Chuck worked for Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent in the Trades division. Using the GI Bill, Chuck went to a trade school, during his off hours, to learn about HVAC systems. He retired as an HVAC Technician after about 38 years with the company.

Chuck had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales. Chuck and Connie traveled to many places in the United States and overseas. Chuck loved spending time with his family and friends playing golf, ping pong, pool, darts, and fishing at a pond on his Iowa farm ground. Chuck’s favorite hobby was playing cards—pitch, pinochle, euchre, poker, rummy, plus teaching cribbage to family members and playing the game with them.

Another joy for Chuck was spending time with his grandson, Justin. While Justin was growing up, Chuck and Connie attended many sports activities and band concerts.

Chuck was a faithful Lutheran. While living in Gretna, Chuck and Connie joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in 1989. Chuck served as an Usher for many years.

Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Chuck is survived by wife: Connie; daughter: Robin (Jeff) Perkins of Papillion; sons: Mike Allner and Kevin Allner of Gretna; grandson: Justin (Mary Margaret Morris) Perkins of Chicago, Illinois; grandson: Dylan Allner of Omaha; brothers: Walter (Barbara) Allner and Larry Allner of Moville, Iowa; sister: Patricia Bergstrom of Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
