Charles R. Bergman

Bergman, Charles R. July 5, 1941-April 27, 2023 Greta NE. Preceded in death by parents, John Russell and Bernice; and first wife Joan. Survived by wife, Judy (Swanson);

Children: Chris (Michelle), Dawn (Troy) Lanham, and Jason (Sarah); 8 grandchildren; brother, Allyn (Vicki; brother-in-law Allen (Tamra) Olson; family and friends.

Charles graduated from Alvarado, Minnesota, High School in 1960. He planned to go to tech school for auto body repair but instead enlisted in the US Air Force. After basic training, he returned to Minnesota and married Joan Olson in 1964. Together they were blessed with 3 children; Chris, Dawn and Jason.

Charles served in such places as the Philippines, Johnston Island, and Spain. Along the way he took courses to finish college.

Tragically, Joan died in 1972. So college was put on hold for a while. Later, the children were left with their Minnesota grandparents while Charles went off to UNO to finish his college education. This is where he met Judy.

They married in 1973 and had many adventures during their 50 years of marriage. They lived in Alvarado first and then moved to the Omaha area where all three children finished high school and Charles retired from the Air Force in 1981.

Not to be someone who sat around, Charles continued working for the Air Force as a civilian and that lasted for 20 more years!

Charles was an avid golfer and a more avid Yankees fan. As a couple, Charles and Judy visited all of the major league baseball parks, hosted 2 exchange students from Sweden, visited Sweden, and went all over Mexico from their winter home in Brownsville, Texas starting in 2003.

He loved his family dearly and often said, "When it comes down to it, all you really have is family."

Well done, good and faithful servant.
