Gretna - Chad William Kinen, age 52, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with diabetes.
Chad was born on August 2, 1973, in Papillion, Nebraska, to Larry and Cheryl Kinen. He was raised in Papillion with his brother, Todd, and sister, Nikki. His career was spent working as a “jack of all trades”. He showed his talent and craftmanship in many roles – with the sole goal of helping others however he could.
On November 15, 2013, Chad married his best friend, Lecia, on Cocoa Beach, Florida, with their children standing beside them as witnesses. They both cherished the day even though Chad always had to remind Lecia of their anniversary. In true fashion, Chad found humor in waiting until the end of the day to remind her.
Chad was the devoted father of his sons, Justin (Olivia) and Colton (and special friend Katie) and stepfather to Alexis Munford (Zach), Seth (and special friend Alyssa), and Zach. He recently became a grandpa, a role he cherished, to Cash William (Justin and Olivia). He loved them all fiercely, showing his love through his humor, and his support as they grew into adulthood.
Chad was known for his playful spirit and deep loyalty to his friends. His pranks, banter, and quick wit were hallmarks of his personality, and his friendships were marked by laughter and genuine care.
He loved to travel—always ready to go wherever life might take him. He enjoyed playing golf and perhaps, most memorably, grocery shopping, where he made sure there was always “enough,” just in case. Chad also had a fondness for collecting tools, filling the garage with projects and possibilities—many more than anyone ever truly needed, but each one chosen with purpose.
Chad faced illness with resilience and strength, enduring far more than most ever saw. After a long journey marked by determination and courage, he is now at rest.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Claudette, and his mother, Cheryl.
Chad will be remembered for his humor, his generous heart, his devotion to his family, and the deep love he gave so freely. He is profoundly missed and will be forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Memorials may be given in Chad’s honor to a cause to be determined.
