Cara B. Dreessen

Cara was diagnosed as a having Down’s Syndrome early in her life. Despite that affliction, she prospered under the love and affection of her parents and her two older brothers. She was one of the first handicapped children to be mainstreamed in the Papillion School System. She relied on her older brothers on those rare occasions when she faced friction with other students. She later transferred to Westside High School where she graduated.

Cara loved pop music and show business. One of the highlights of a trip to Hollywood with her family was seeing the stars in the sidewalk along the “Walk of Fame”. She loved being the center of attention and spending time with her mother. She was never shy about expressing her opinion, as those who knew her would tell you. She was always eager to tell you about her day and the antics of her colleagues.

Cara moved to housing provided by ENCOR (now DUET) after high school. She prospered under the care and guidance of the expert staff. Cara was employed for much of her adult life. ENCOR operated a sheltered workshop in Bellevue. She worked there, helping make grade stakes for her father’s engineering company. She also worked at Offutt Air Base and the Lozier Company.

As time passed, Cara began to require special support. The staff stepped up to meet her needs, always being sure she had appropriate clothing, furniture, diet, and incidentals. The loving care she received ensured her continuing comfort.

Cara passed away at the Mosaic MSU facility in Omaha, Nebraska. Preceded in death by her mother: Linda. Survived by her father: Robert "Bob"; brothers: Douglas and Bruce (Michelle); niece: Zoe; nephew: Cole.
