Benjamin L. Meyer

4/18/1987 - 10/22/2018

Benjamin Lyle Meyer was born in Omaha, Nebraska on April 18, 1987 to Timothy Lane Meyer and Shauna Jayne Trieb. He was quickly joined by his brother, Jacob Robert Meyer, 14 months later.

Ben’s childhood was filled with time spent with his family, on his father’s side in Ruskin, and his mother’s side in Auburn and Big Lake, Missouri. Ben and his brother and cousins loved being in the water, intertubing, and playing board and card games.

Ben loved sports and music from a young age. Growing up, he played basketball, baseball, football, and soccer, joining many select teams and competing in everything from local tournaments to youth baseball world championships. He played the drums in middle school. He continued to play football, basketball and baseball at Westside High School, and graduated in 2005.

He was a Southern Methodist University Cox Business Scholar where he received a BBA in Finance in May 2009 and a Master of Science in Accounting in May 2011. Following the completion of his Master’s degree, he moved to Washington D.C. where he worked as an accountant at the Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest private equity firms.

Ben moved to Los Angeles in May, 2013, where he became the CFO of Transcend, a drug addiction rehabilitation center. After leaving Transcend, he co-founded Pelorus Health, a health technology company focused on helping former addicts maintain their sobriety. He lived in LA until June of 2018, when he took a job at GoPro in San Francisco as a financial analyst.

Ben’s life was filled with love, adventure, and passion. His generous spirit touched the hearts of so many. He is survived by father Tim, mother Shauna, stepfather Mark, grandparents Joanne, Peggy, and Edwin, brother Jake, stepsisters Erin and Emily, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
