Arlene J. Collins

Omaha - Arlene Jill Collins was born on November 4, 1939, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Nathanal Lee and Annie Will Averett. She was one of twin daughters, with Alice Joyce Long as her beloved twin sister.

Arlene attended Howard Kennedy Elementary School and Technical High School in Omaha. After graduating, she worked in various service industry positions before moving to Los Angeles, California, with her two children, Tracy and Terri, in pursuit of new opportunities and a brighter future.

In Los Angeles, Arlene discovered her passion for fashion and beauty. She enrolled in cosmetology school and later opened Arlene's World of Beauty. Her salon thrived, employing two stylists and attracting loyal clients throughout Los Angeles. Her talent, warmth, and commitment to excellence earned the trust of everyone who sat in her chair.

Arlene also had a remarkable gift for decorating and creating beautiful spaces. Family and friends believed she could have enjoyed a successful career in interior design. Her favorite color was green, reflecting the warmth and beauty she brought into the lives of others.

On June 9, 1975, Arlene welcomed her son, Todd, completing her family. While she was a successful business owner and devoted mother, what truly defined her was her compassionate heart. She found great joy in serving others by preparing meals, opening her home to those in need, and offering a listening ear and encouragement. She believed kindness was one of life's greatest gifts and shared it freely.

Although she did not attend church regularly, Arlene's faith in God remained steadfast throughout her life and was reflected in her generosity, compassion, and love for others.

In the early 1980s, after experiencing health challenges, Arlene returned to Omaha to be surrounded by the love and support of her family. Never one to remain idle, she accepted a position in the food service department at Creighton University, where she continued serving others. She became known for her signature greeting, "Hello, Baby," which instantly made everyone feel welcomed and appreciated. Her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and magnetic personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

During her later years, Arlene never missed an opportunity to express her gratitude. She faithfully thanked others for their kindness and reminded family and friends how much they meant to her with the simple yet powerful words, "I love you." She asked for very little but gave abundantly of herself. Her generosity, humility, and unwavering love defined her life.

On July 2, 2026, Arlene peacefully departed this life. Though our hearts are saddened by her passing, we find comfort knowing her legacy of kindness, compassion, and unconditional love will continue through all who were blessed to know her.
