Tony Irwin, 49 years of age, passed on Friday. December 11, 2020, at Lakeside
Hospital in the very Emergency Room he helped open in 2005.
He is preceded in death by his mother Carole Irwin and father Robert
Irwin, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Kelly Groux, children - Alex Irwin, Sophia Irwin, and
Chloe Irwin, sister Cynthia Hollman, brother Robert Irwin, Jr., and sister Christine
Ingersoll, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs, Ruby and Doug.
Tony was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016. He fought through treatment
valiantly to be encumbered with multiple side effects of the disease and chemotherapy.
The battle through these bonus diagnoses proved to be too difficult and ended in his
sudden death.
Tony lived his life to serve others. He demonstrated this through his profession
as a nurse, volunteer Gretna fireman, Parish Nurse at Resurrection Lutheran Church,
and volunteering as an Athletic Trainer for various football teams through the years.
He loved his family and reveled in his children’s accomplishments. He enjoyed
fishing and time spent on his boat or a frozen lake in his ice fishing tent. His downtime
was spent with his sweet pug, Ruby, in whatever their current project may be. He
enjoyed laser printing, woodworking, 3D printing, or exploring his Cricut and embroidery
machines.
He will be remembered as a jokester with a sarcastic sense of humor. He loved
to make other people laugh and always had a smile on his face. He loved to dress up
for Halloween and time spent with friends and a stiff drink. However, his greatest sense
of worth was caring for others and he changed many lives in his career as a Home
Health Nurse.
We will celebrate his life well lived on Friday, December 18th from 4:00 pm to
7:00 pm at Roeder Mortuary .
Memorials to the family at this time, in lieu of flowers.
