Anita Clara Brettmann was born on August 24, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska to German immigrants, George and Erna Benecke. She was one of four children . As a child, she attended Saratoga Elementary school in Omaha. In 1952, Anita graduated from Nursing School and on August 7, 1954 married Roy Brettmann. They had one son, Cory Brettmann . She spent most of her career at the Veteran’s Hospital as a surgical nurse. Anita was overjoyed when Cory married his wife, Killeen, and gave her two granddaughters, Chloe and Eryn.
Anita had numerous interests that enriched her life. She acted in many performances by the Grand Olde Players theatre group and also appeared in the movie “Citizen Ruth” directed by Alexander Payne. In addition to both collecting and creating art, she loved jazz, bridge, and golf. As a member of the Field Club of Omaha for many years, she enjoyed her friends there and many rounds of golf over the years.
Due to her friendly, outgoing personality she made friends wherever she went. She embraced life, loved her family and friends dearly and will be missed by all those who knew her.
Passed away peacefully at Immanuel Fontenelle Home. Anita was preceded in death by her Husband of 37 years: Roy; Son: Cory; Brother: George Benecke, Jr.; and her Parents: George & Erna Benecke; She is survived by her Granddaughters: Chloe & Eryn; Daughter-in-Law: Killeen; Sisters: Chris Potach, Kathy Bonsall; and numerous Nieces & Nephews.
